Scaled gives tech – course platforms, cost processing and extra!


This can help you figure out what you need at each step.

Usually you’ll need:

  • A sales page – that tells people about the offer
  • A way for people to pay
  • A way to automatically deliver the product or give access to the product once someone has paid
  • A place to host the product
  • A way to keep in touch with people who have bought the product

Tech considerations for each step

Sales page

Your website builder is the best place to create this – you could also use a landing page that might be packaged into your email service provider, or even a Notion page or Google Doc that’s publicly viewable. Some bigger tech tools include the option to create sales pages (Kajabi / Teachable)

Basically your sales page is a place where people can learn about your offer and make the decision to purchase it.

Your sales page will need a button that includes a URL that takes people to where they pay – or the payment cart can be embedded into the sales page.

A way for people to pay

There are various options available for people to be able to pay you for your offer. Some payment solutions are packaged into bigger tech tools like Kajabi or Teachable. Some email service providers also allow you to sell through them such as ConvertKit (affiliate link) and Mailerlite. There’s also Payhip and SendOwl that have payment options included.

You will likely also need to have a Stripe or a PayPal account to link to these tools for you to receive the payments. You can also simply create payment links within Stripe or PayPal and just take payments directly.

A way to deliver the product

This is where we get into automations and we need the different pieces of tech to ‘talk to each other’. Some tech tools have these options already enabled, others don’t. Essentially what we need is for the payment to trigger someone having access to the product and that depends on where the content for the product is hosted.

A place to host the product

Your offer will include content – probably in the form of videos, audios, PDFs, written content etc. This needs to ‘live’ somewhere online and people who purchase need to be able to access it.

Course platforms such as Teachable, Kajabi, ThriveLearn will host the content within the platform and people will get a login to access it.

Other options include a password protected page on your website, a Google drive with content that’s accessible, Unlisted YouTube videos, Loom videos or Vimeo hosted videos.

A way to keep in touch with people who have bought

You’ll want to be able to keep in touch with the people who have purchased the offer and send them instructions for how to access their content. Ideally you’ll need an automation that adds people to your list when they buy, tags them and triggers an email when they purchase.

I know that all of this can sound very overwhelming because there are so many options! Generally what you’ll find is that the more steps a tech tool includes the higher investment it is. For example, Teachable and Kajabi do all of the above steps including an email list function – but are a significant monthly investment.

When you’re starting out, it can be much more accessible to build out your tech automations using smaller tools and connecting them together. Some would argue that there’s actually a lot better functionality by doing this and some benefits depending on your preferences.

My favourite tech tools

As I said, I’m a self confessed tech geek and I’ve tried out a lot of tools in the past. These are my favourites:

Thrivecart Learn +

I replaced Teachable with Thrivecart and Learn + (affiliate link) 18 months ago and never looked back. While Teachable was a good platform the monthly expense was prohibitive and Thrivecart and Learn + is a one off fee. I love the payment pages you can create with Thrivecart and the course hosting in Thrive Learn is good too.

Note with Thrive Learn – you can’t host your course files inside Thrive Learn – they need to be hosted elsewhere and then linked or embedded into the platform.


I’m a massive fan of Convertkit (affiliate link) for managing my email list. It integrates seamlessly with Thrivecart and other tech tools and has all the functionality I need to manage things with multiple offers, participating in bundles etc.


I love using Stripe, which connects with the payments that come in via Thrivecart, for payment processing. It’s straightforward to use and also connects to my Wise account so I can accept payments and pay for expenses in different currencies.

Payhip and Sendowl

I used Sendowl for many years before I got a full course platform and I’ve also used and loved Payhip. Both of these are good, low cost options for selling small digital products that are fairly simple to set up. I include them both in my course Super Simple Passive Income.


I use Loom almost every day in my business but when it comes to scalable offers all of my videos are recorded and hosted in Loom where I can embed them into Thrive Learn or on website pages or share direct, private links.
